About Sonata

Sonata is the connected workspace and operating system for modern legal teams. It brings the agents, workflows, and tools a legal team uses every day into one place, built around how legal work actually happens, and built so the team stays in control of it.

What Sonata is

Most software sold to legal teams is a single tool that does a single thing, bolted onto a stack of other single tools that do not talk to each other. Sonata takes a different shape. It is an operating system: a place where a department of AI agents, the workflows that put them to work, and the systems your team already relies on come together, governed centrally and used daily. The work happens where the team works, not scattered across a dozen logins.

Why Sonata?

A sonata is a composed work: distinct movements, each with its own character, arranged in deliberate order into one coherent whole. That is what this product is. Watchers that scan on a schedule. Agents that answer in plain English. Workflows that pause for your approval. Many parts, one composition, built around how your team actually works.

Everything in Sonata is built the same way: grounded in the official record, cited to its source, and honest about its limits. Nothing leaves without your review. The name describes the structure. The structure is the product.

Who it is for

Sonata is built for in-house legal departments and law firms alike. For an in-house team, it is the place to handle the volume of legal work a business generates, with agents organized the way a department is. For a firm, it is the place to do client work with the same structure and control. The product treats both as first-class, because the underlying need is the same: do serious legal work with AI, without giving up oversight of it.

Where the advantage is moving

Most legal teams today reach for third-party AI vendors, and for the convenience they offer right now, that is a reasonable choice. We think it is a temporary one. As these systems grow more capable, the advantage moves to the organizations that adopt AI more natively, building it into how their own work actually gets done rather than renting it at arm’s length. Teams that make AI part of how they operate will, we believe, deliver measurably better work, and the teams that wait risk being left behind by the ones that did not. The early signs are already here: legal organizations standing up their own tooling, hiring for legal-technology talent, and placing new value on the people who live at the intersection of law and technology. Sonata exists to put that capability within reach of a legal team without asking it to become a software company. Spend less time on the daily toil of repetitive work, and more on what matters most: your judgment.

What we believe

We believe legal teams should not have to choose between using modern AI and keeping control of their work. They should not be locked to a single model, forced to hand confidential matters to a black box, or asked to trust that an automated system did the right thing. Sonata is built on the opposite conviction: that the team owns its tools, its data, and every action taken on its behalf. AI does the work; the team stays in command. The deeper statement of that conviction lives on our Mission page.

Sonata is software, but the practice of law is yours. The judgment, the responsibility, the final decision. We build the workspace; you do the work.
